One Month Off

I'm finally settled in here in Kansas City. Or KCMO as everybody says, (KCMO-kansas city mo and KCK- kansas city kansas). I really love it here. I'm so glad to be back with Travis and our friend from high school. I've had more fun in the past four days here than I've had in the past year and a half.
The snow....I love the snow. I've never seen snow before, back home it's 70 degrees today and here it's 17. I really really love it. At first it was nice to be out of Biloxi and living in Memphis, but now it's so nice to be out of Memphis. Well, Memphis is wonderful, but it's nice to be out of my cold, tiny apartment. It was an efficiency, so I had a bedroom, my roommate's bedroom and a kitchen. I'm not really one for sitting around all day watching tv. I love to be out and about or always doing something, but I never realized how nice it is every now and then to just curl up on the couch with a book. I was so sick of being locked away in my tiny, cluttered bedroom all the time because the city I was in was too dangerous for me to be out alone in.
There's so much to do here and I already have a whole lot of things to keep me busy. I really love my room here. The walls are red, black and beige. The bed is a black Queen with metal studs on the headboard. On the walls are b&w photos from old films and of actors and actresses from those films. On the left of the enormous HD TV is a huge painting of Audrey Hepburn and to the right is Marilyn Monroe. A bit cliche, I know. It's still great, get over it.

The Clock

Today is just one of those days I hate.

The sockets in my apartment stopped working.
Couldn't turn on space heater.
Really cold night.
Had trouble sleeping.
Woke up at 2pm.
Apartment was freezing.
Pounding headache begins.
Discovered plugs in bathroom work.
Plugged space heater in and curled up in hallway with Macbook.
Mean text from Mom saying she checked my bank account.
She asks why I'm broke.
New girl showed up to move in.
A couple other people showed up.
Decided on dinner Downtown.
Dinner wasn't good.
Missed Ugly Betty thanks to dinner and powerless apartment.
At least dinner was free.
Got harassed by a homeless guy.
I have no sympathy.
Ran out of boxes while packing.
Boyfriend won't answer phone.
Boyfriend has boxes.
Boyfriend still won't answer phone.
Angry, tired trip to Target to find boxes.
Way too expensive.
Boyfriend still doesn't answer.
Planning on beating up boyfriend tomorrow.
Decides that's not the best plan since I haven't seen him in so long.
Misses boyfriend.
Spends money I don't have at Target.
Back in tiny hallway.
So glad I'm moving out.
Still freezing cold apartment.
For some odd reason I want a Frosty.
Pounding headache still not gone.
Exhausted for some reason.
Wants to sleep.
Still in hallway.
Pounding headache dissipating.

Anywhere But Here

So my last day of school at Memphis College of Art is tomorrow. I get way too sentimental with certain things. Ok, with everything. I don't know what it is. Earlier tonight I was leaving the school and was like "This is the last time I'll be here at night." I looked around and took in the scenery, the dark basement of the school, the lights in the park reflecting off the pond.

I just don't understand myself. I'm so weird. Tomorrow I'll be sad, many of these people I've known for the past several months will probably never see me again. On my last day all I have is Art History 2, we're just going in, picking up our last test and leaving. My teacher, Adrian Duran, has probably been my favorite teacher. Ever. From Pre-School until now, he is my number one fave. I know I'll get over it....

As soon as Travis and I have everything packed into our cars, and we're out of Tennessee, I will be SO DAMN HAPPY.

I need to get the hell out of here.

What Gets You Off?

Ok so celeb crushes are considered kind of weird for several reasons.
1. You dont even know them, a lot of them are huge d-bags.
(but hey, if I knew him in real life, I'd probably still have a crush)

2. You'll probably never meet them
(just like I never talked to that hot guy at the mall, but I still had thoughts in my head....)

3. You only want them because they're famous
(I'm not going to cry if he gets married, I just like to look)

And many other reasons. I'm definitely not one of those girls with photos all over her walls who cries every time a certain celeb is seen out with a woman and has been saving myself for him for years. I wouldn't chase them down in public, or stalk them or anything. I just like to look at gorgeous gorgeous men.

So here are the two that are currently my favorite.

Ed Westwick. I think I mainly have a crush on the fictitious Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl. But Ed sure is pretty, he became twice as attractive the first time I heard his British accent. What is it with us American girls and those accents? Hell, I bet even British girls can't get over the sexy accent.

Andy Samberg.
Ok so I LOVE a guy with a sense of humor and Andy obviously has one (he's a cast member on SNL). He's funny and absolutely adorable (in that sexy man kind of way, not in a tiny stuffed animal way). He's also rumored to be dating Joanna Newsom, they met because he's a fan of her music, which means he has a great taste in music. If you haven't listened to Joanna Newsom I suggest you go right now. It's beautiful.

So those are the two closest things I have to a "celeb crush"
Hot hot man candy.

We're Going To Be Friends

So here's a strange situation for you. I had this group of friends in high school, we were all so close. I'd probably been 'best friends' with each girl in the group at one point or another, the last of them kind of ruined it all. Sometime during our senior year apparently something went wrong and she snapped. This whole insane high school war broke out between her (backed by the rest of the group) and me (backed my random people at school that I never knew had my back, oh and my boyfriend...).
At first I took it really hard, all the people I'd been so close to for several years(except for a few of the more mature people) had just dropped me like I meant nothing to them. As soon as I find out a lot of them were manipulative liars I got over it. I'd recently started making friends at work, so it's not like I became this complete loner. My current best friend who I absolutely love started hanging around with me at this time. I'm afraid to say that if those idiots hadn't turned on me I probably wouldn't have hung out with her as much, therefore I wouldn't have the best best friend ever. So it ended up working out for me in the end.
After many screaming matches between the ex best friend and the boyfriend (I prefer not to fight, but she was brining his life long friends into it, so whatever), it seemed like everything had calmed down about half way through our senior year. I was relieved. I just wanted to spend time with my new group of friends and Travis (the boyfriend).  But of course they laid off for about a week and started up with the very middle school-esque teasing and that I just didn't care for at all.
I was never that geeky kid in school that everybody made fun of, I just became part of that group of people that made fun of those kids who really never did anything wrong. I feel bad for it now, but it's all over with. So anyway, I recently found out most of them had just been lying throughout our friendship, which just made me laugh because I'm so much better off now anyway.  I got a scholarship to a really great school. I'm still with Travis, I have an insane amount of friends and I'm really happy with my life.
Only a couple of them are in college, and it's the small crappy local community college back home (not dissing community college, but stll). They still really only have each other from what I've heard, and are just getting into lots of trouble. The ex best friends long time boyfriend and Travis' life-long best friend broke up with her. I was really happy when I found out he'd taken up for me senior year. I was glad to find out he was one of the good friends.
So anyway, done with explaining the history behind it. She recently uploaded a lot of old photos of us from high
school on her Facebook. She tagged me as MegFaye, which I really only go by here on my blog and I use it for my email
address. I just have no idea why somebody would do that. Does she not have anything better to do? Oh and in each photo
there's at least one comment referring to me as a "fag". Interesting.
I don't really care, it's just really strange to me.

Oh, did I mention we graduated in May '07 and I haven't spoken to her since 2006?
Talk about a grudge!

The White Stripes
White Blood Cells

Ghouls

So the Twilight movie came out some time ago, derived from the book that inspired tons of teenage girl fantasies, fan-fictions, and overall just millions of girls (and a percentage of boys) who orgasm when someone says the word "Cullen"

So when invited to see the movie, I couldn't turn down a good Monday night out, which ended with a late night trip to IHOP. I'm usually pretty picky about which movies I like and I can be pretty critical at times, but I also posses the ability to just let go and enjoy something. Which leads to the four or five dvds that are hidden in the back that nobody knows about. Shhhh at least
Smokin' Aces had Jeremy Piven....and guns.

I'm usually a "one of the boys" kind of girl. Don't get me wrong, I love a romantic night out with the boyfriend as much as the next girl, but I'd much rather watch Clive Owen with a gun in somebody's face (
The International...hello) than Kate Hudson's newest romantic comedy (Bride Wars.....really?).

A lot of people have said "Well you like
Harry Potter ... Twilight is the same."
Um....no my friend it is not. There are many more people who read the
Harry Potter series and they aren't necessarily about vampires falling in love. At all. Twilight has pretty much claimed every 13-24 year old female (and again, a few males) on earth except for the few of us who managed to escape Stephanie Meyer's vampire loving clutches.

Ok I'll admit the movie wasn't bad. If I just let the girly-girl in me come out and get all sappy and romantic and start 'squee-ing' every time I hear the name Edward. But that girl never comes out. It was weird when she did as soon as he started to shimmer like fricken lip gloss.

But Robert Pattinson's acting was a little iffy at times, like everyone else has mentioned. I like him, he admits he can't act. Come on, if somebody said they'd pay you $12 million (which is what he's getting for the rest of the films...yes there are more coming) to play a shiny angsty vampire, you'd probably do it. Eff I would say "And the lion fell in love with the lamb..." however many times Stephanie (fricken) Meyer told the director to tell me to.

One thing about the character of Edward, now I haven't read the books so maybe the movie is portraying it the wrong way, but isn't he like 100-something years old? Yes, he was 17 when he became a glittery, upset vampire but you think after one hundred years he'd get over the whole teen angst thing? Were teenagers even angsty one hundred years ago?

Anyway, this little snippet from College Humor is entertaining (almost as entertaining as glittery vampires playing baseball to Supermassive Black Hole):

Merry Happy

I'm moving to Kansas City MO in a week....
Independence Missouri to be exact but whatever.
So instead of packing I've been:

Reading
Shopping at the place that has the best sales ever on everything

Playing with Photo Booth

Texting

Blogging

And buying stuff I can't afford on the greatest website ever

Kate Nash
Made of Bricks

Public Pervert

So there is this guy at my school. I will not even hint at his name. You never know who is reading, haha. He and I are sort of friends and it's so weird. Let me first say, I have a boyfriend. I'm super happy with my boyfriend, I've never had a bigger crush on a guy and I'm so lucky that he's crazy about me. But this guy....it's just....strange. There's that crushing feeling, the lusty feeling, and all of those feelings about different boys. This one, about this guy is completely new. It's none of the above. Every time I see him I just want to throw him on the floor, unbutton his shirt, and....

...then I realize I'm fantasizing about him. It's like as soon as he opens his mouth all these things start going on in my head and I can't even look at him the same. I have never had these odd feelings about any guy before. He's not even my type. There is just this insane attraction.

I cannot wait for Travis (the boyfriend) to get here. Maybe all these strange thoughts about guy friends are happening because I've seen my boyfriend once in the past year. Ew.

Girl-crush Eye Candy

Ok so for some reason, I randomly decided to post photos of my favorite pretty girls that sing. I'm so original.

Who doesn't like looking at hot chicks with musical talent?

Straight girls? Like me? Maybe...
I guess I'm not feeling so straight today or something.

Oh well, in no particular order, here it goes:

Lily fricken Allen. I've been a fan of hers for forever. I'm not just trying to sound cool, I really have. I will always love her, drunk, sober, high, ugly, fat, skinny, pretty....

The boyfriend and I have already agreed, that if Kate Nash calls him up, I'll forgive him for one night.

Two hot chicks who love hot chicks. Tegan and Sara, need I say more? They are amazing.

Jenny Lewis. The cute folky vocalist with a dirty side.

Sue Denim and Dee Plume of Robots in Disguise. My personal style icons, the fact that Dee is dating Noel Fielding makes me want to be her wardrobe raiding, boyfriend stealing best friend.

Zooey Deschanel. Who cares if every actor/actress is coming out with an album, have you heard She and Him?

The girl that could beat up your boyfriend, Brody Dalle.

Lady Gaga is HOT. Christina Aguilera needs to lay off.

I'm not in to the whole "scene" thing, but Hayley Williams of Paramore is adorable and her voice is fabulous.

Patricia Day, the jaeger chugging, chain smoking, lead singer of the Horrorpops.

Cat Power, her sense of style is beyond rad, just like her music.
Joanna Newsom. Her lyrics are absolutely beautiful and poetic. Did I mention she's dating comedian Andy Samberg? Lucky.....

Adele. She's British, her voice is killer, and she's gorgeous.
Done.

Katie White of the Ting Tings. Her eyes....are like.....wow.

Regina Spektor. If gay marriage becomes legal and we both wake up as lesbians one morning, we're getting married.
Gwen Stefani. A lot of people didn't like her solo stuff, but hey No Doubt is going to start touring again!

I'm sure as soon as I post this, I'll remember tons more. Maybe I'll do another one some day, but these are my absolute faves.

Sweet Darlin'

I got back from Thanksgiving Break yesterday. I flew (the 45min. flight) back home to Biloxi and stayed for a bit less than a week. It was really great to spend some time with my best friends and sleep in my old bed. It was a week full of free Starbucks, shopping, Midori Sours, and a crazy trip to the hospital. But now it's back to tons of work, stress, and my crappy bed. But only for two more weeks.

Travis is coming to pick me up and we're moving all of my stuff to Kansas City. I think it'll be very interesting to live there, it's a big city and I really like it. I'll get to experience my first real winter. It snowed once when I was in 2nd grade and melted as soon as it hit the ground. The winters never really get cold back home.

A sort of friend of mine just broke up with her boyfriend of a couple years. She lives in D.C. and he's moving away. I would love to just pack up and move out there. I love it so much there, it's beautiful and it would be a great place for me to live. But I'm already kind of doing a spur of the moment move. So I'll have to save the D.C. thing for next time I decide to just pack my things and leave.

Nobody seems to understand why I don't want to live in Mississippi (where I grew up). It's really not my kind of place. Where I'm from has the beach, casinos and stuff like that. It's mainly a get a mundane job, or marry a guy who already has one, have four kids, buy a mini-van and a nice house and just chill for the rest of your life kind of place. That isn't my kind of thing. At all. I want adventure and excitement. You only live once, I don't want to look back and regret my life. I got a scholarship to Memphis College of Art and moved up here, now I'm off to Missouri. I'd really like to live in Chicago for some time, just to see what it's like. But I think my next stop will be somewhere like D.C.

People where I'm from always talk about living somewhere else. It's like, when somebody has dreams of being an actress and talks about it a lot, most of them never even pursue it, we all have those kinds of things we want to be or do. I'd love to be a rock star, but it's never going to happen and that's cool because I'd probably end up hating it anyway.

But where I'm from, when people say they want to live somewhere that's not even super exciting like Texas or something, it's considered this huge fantasy. When I said I was interested in living in NYC someday everybody just laughed. All of them know they'll never leave and a huge majority of them never do. Everyone I knew in high school lives either in Mississippi or Alabama. My boyfriend and I are the only people I know of that have moved. It's crazy. People can't believe I moved to Memphis and it's fifteen minutes outside of Mississippi. It's not that hard, I got accepted to a college I liked, packed my stuff, got in my car and left.

But that's all for now. I'd rather blog about something interesting that happens.

Friend Of Mine

So one day, long ago (ok maybe a tad over a year) somebody told me I resembled Lily Allen. This was back when I had long straight hair, blunt cut bangs, and slightly better skin.

This person was also a bit tipsy and I looked extra fab that night. Nevertheless I took the complement, but didn't believe her.

I really don't see any resemblance, Lily is thin, fabulous, and totally gorgeous. Someone who I don't want to mention, who should have told me they thought I looked better than Lily, told me it was just because of the hair and she was far cuter than I was. (which is why he's no longer my boyfriend)

But anyway, only recently did I realize that clean, sober me, looks like smoking, drunk, cracked out Allen.

Ohhhhhh, there's the resemblance.

Alright, Still

Creepin Up The Backstairs

I have this friend, and every time she comes over you can hear her as soon as she opens the door on the bottom floor. She comes pounding up the stairs and beats on the door. Each and every time. Well, every other time, she just throws the door open, stomps in and proceeds to beat on my bedroom door until I call for her to open it. Which she doesn't hear most of the time because her banging is too loud.

Anyway, the other night I hear her coming up the stairs to my back door, which is in my kitchen. I get up and open the door before her fist can even touch it. She's standing there, out of breath. At first I think it's because of the stairs, the stairs leading to my back door are so tiny somebody over 200 pounds probably couldn't fit up them, and they spiral so sharply anyone will run out of breath on them. I notice she's angry. She slams her hand on the wall and leans against it, "FUCK HIM!" she yells.

Oh no, boy drama, is the first thing I think. Turns out it is boy drama, but more like transgender boy drama. R lives at our apartment building. My friend falls for anyones shitty ways every single time. Apparently she loaned him and a few friends $100 to get into a club, but once they got to the door she didn't have her ID. R and his friends went inside without her.

"I am SO PISSED OFF!" she yells and I just stand there staring with the door cracked open, for some odd reason my roomate has string hanging from the shelf in the kitchen to the window, which is blocking the door and creating a trip wire for anyone who is 5'8" and taller. I hear a familiar creaking sound behind her and she turns around, our RA is standing there giving us 'the face'. He never really says anything when anybody is doing anything wrong, he just walks up to them and gives them this disapproving look and you know you've done wrong.

My friend spins on her heel and quietly makes her way down the stairs, he just stares at me for a second, I give him my "You know I never make noise, so stop giving me the look" smile. He grins and says, "Riiiigghhhtt" and shuts his door.

It's so weird every time I see him. Why is there this extreme awkwardness?

Franco Un-American

It's election day!

I voted for Obama.

Election day at Art School in a city that is devoted to Barack Obama. Nothing like it. I sat in the Sleeze N Slime (which is our school's cafe) eating lunch and watching everybody run around with their Obama buttons, and just a couple McCain buttons.

All I could hear was yelling. We're all pretty stubborn people at this school. What can I say? We're art students. I didn't feel like finding anybody to argue with over why I love Obama so much. I attempted to listen to everyone else's arguments but there was no way that was happening.

People were crowded by the mailboxes stuffing Obama and McCain pictures in our mailboxes, my school is having this big election party tonight. They are serving hot dogs and apple pie. What could be more American? I'm so happy (dripping with sarcasm) that the most American of foods are both unappetizing. Everyone is going to watch election coverage. My roomate is going just to hoard free food.

Which means my apartment shall smell of hot dogs and apples for the next month.

Ew. I think I'd rather live with Sarah Palin for a month.

Shaking Paper

So I figured I'd make a blog about the random, funny, and interesting things that happen to me at school. Just those awkward and weird situations and things that happen, not necessarily a diary of my college experience.

Right now I'm attending the Memphis College of Art in Memphis TN. I'm living at Parkside, which is an apartment building owned by my school for housing. They have five (completely fricken opposite) different buildings, and several houses for students to live in.

I'm leaving after this semester for another school, then after that semester for another school. I'm hopping around until I really decide where I want to be.

I'm going to make each blog title a song name that sort of goes with my story and also a song I like, I'll put the artist and album at the end of the blog.

Yay!
